Water Safety

According to a report published last month by Safekids.org drowning remains a leading cause of unintentional injury death in children and in 2014, almost 800 children – or two a day ‐ lost their lives to drowning.

I think it's helpful to start our safety series with this research report by Safekids.org entitled "Dangerous Waters: Profiles of Fatal Childhood Drownings in the U.S. 2005-2014." Safekids.org provides wonderful free resources for healthcare workers, teachers, and parents. This article is both informative and heartbreaking, considering the fact that most water related accidents are preventable. I hope you share these statistics and handouts with your clients, students, and friends who have children. It may save them from the heartbreak of losing a child to the tragedy of a fatal drowning.
